About Cheboards

Cheboards is owned and operated by Juan Diego. Juan was passionate about surf craft since a very young age. He has been surfing since he was 7 and fixed the very first surfboard on his own when he was 12. In his teens, he lived, surfed and worked with surfboards in a little workshop at his home in Mar del Plata, Argentina. When he turned 18, he started working in a surf factory where he learned plenty about surfboards and saved money for surf trips. In the following years, he had an opportunity to work with several renowned shapers in Brazil, Chile, Peru, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Argentina.

In 2007, Juan moved to Tenerife, the largest island of the seven Canary Islands, and founded a surf factory with his partner and named it ‘Cheboards’. The surf factory earned a great reputation in Canary Islands and other European regions. They moved to Costa Rica in 2012 and began producing boards for various companies all over the world.

Surf Lessons

Al Chile features different kinds of options depending upon your surfing skills and needs. Beginners, intermediates and veterans are all welcome. According to your wish, you can learn in groups or privately with an instructor. The charges of private classes are higher than group lessons. Located at Plaza Brunela, 360 Surf Shop is standing on the white sand beach of Playa Santa Teresa on the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. The shop was opened by Julia Mueller-Schwenn in 2006. She is a fully experienced surf instructor and manager who has taught surfing in various countries including Hawaii, Indonesia and Costa Rica. After a decade of experience, she decided to open her own school and shop in the tropical country. In 2011, Ryan, a young Floridian surfer, moved to Santa Teresa and joined the shop to spread his love of ocean and surfing.

The groups are kept small, four students per instructor, so lessons can be more effective and personalized. Along with surfing, the instructors make sure that each of you learns about ocean safety and surf etiquette. Private lessons are either be one on one or with a group of friends or family members. The rates of private sessions are slightly higher.

Matos offers a superb four day course for those of you who are short on time or wish to take a fast route to become a good surfer. On day 1, you will learn the basics about surfing, getting up on the board, paddling and choosing the right wave. Day 2 will teach you about riding down the line, time adjustment and choosing a right direction. By day 3, you might know what board is suitable for you and lessons will be customized according to your needs. Day 4 will bring the final lesson in which you will be ready to surf on your own with confidence.

Surf Sessions for Kids

Matos Surf Shop has separate classes for younger kids who love the ocean and want to surf. Kids as young as 3 years old can learn to catch the waves. The school takes special care and ensures utmost safety of your child. The classes are planned according to age, the tide, size of the waves, weather conditions and a suitable spot for the child.
