Alana Rene Blanchard is an American professional surfer who gained worldwide recognition at the age of 22 as one of the best female surfers in the world. Besides surfing, Blanchard frequently appears as a bikini model and has also taken part as a designer of Rip Curl Bikinis. She was born on 5th March 1990 in a Hawaiian city, Kauai. The young role model has even more followers on Twitter and Instagram than Kelly Slater who has won world championship 11 times. Moreover, Blanchard is a participant of ASP World Tour. Currently she runs her show on Network A, by the name of Surfer Girl, which follows Alana’s life in Hawaii along with her surfing and modeling career.

Alana happens to be the friend of Bethany Hamilton, a famous surfer, and was there with her when Hamilton got attacked by the 14 foottiger shark. In the 2011 movie, Soul Surfer, that depicts the actual events, Blanchard was played by Lorraine Nicholson. While Hamilton became the symbol of hope and strength among surfers and traveled as a surfing ambassador throughout the world, Alana also worked hard to achieve success in surfing. She took part in various contests and won many of those such as Women’s Pipeline Championships in Hawaii, the Rip Curl Girls Festival Jr. Pro in Spain, the Roxy Pro Trials, Haleiwa in Hawaii, the Billabong Pro, Pre Trials in Maui, and at the Volcom Pufferfish Surf Series right at her homeland at Pinetrees, Kauai. As Alana morphed into a successful surfer, she got noticed by the fashion industry for her photogenic looks as well. Although many people, particularly fellow surfers, have criticized her modeling career, there is no denying that Alana has helped to make surfing an attractive sport profession. Alana Blanchard is not merely a model who can surf but she is a surfer who got great looks!

The secluded, tropical coastal towns are situated on the southern end of the Pacific coast of Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. The towns are free from all the hustle and bustle of the city which is largely appealing to the tourists who are looking for a serene getaway. Santa Teresa and Mal Pais feature a long range of sun baked white sand beaches bordered by a crystal clear ocean, a cluster of forested hills, dense tropical jungles and intense wildlife.
Surfing in Santa Teresa

Santa Teresa is an incredible place to surf particularly during the summer season. There are hardly any crowds and surfers don’t have to wait for their turn in long lines. There are remote and glorious beaches that support excellent swells and waves. The two most popular surf spots are La Lora Amarilla and Suck Rock.

Suck Rock

Located next to La Lora Amarilla, Suck Rock is a famous right hand beach break. The waves are quite fast, large and steep often rising up to 20 feet! Before closing out, the waves can get double overhead. As the break is very popular among both tourists and locals, there are many great places to stay nearby Suck Rock. Some of the accommodations include Red Palms Resort and Flor Blanca.

La Lora Amarilla

La Lora Amarilla is considered one of the top five surf spots in Costa Rica. Its name is derived from an oceanfront bar which was called La Lora Amarilla by the locals. The wave is hollow; A shaped and breaks in both directions during the low tide. When the currents are strong and the tide is high, the wave can create a large wall of water up to 150 meters! La Lora is free from rocks; features perfectly shaped consistent waves making itself a most favored surfing destination.

Surfing in Mal Pais

In Mal Pais, popular surfs spots include Mar Azul, Playa Carmen, Punta Barrigona and the Sunset Reef.

The multiple peaks help in dispersing the people making the point less crowded. Playa Carmen has sand bottoms and waves with a longer right break and a short left break. The waves are very easy to surf making the beach a suitable place for novices and beginners.

Mar Azul

Rock formations, overhead swells and infrequent breaks make Maz Azul really appealing to pro surfers who are looking for a daring challenge. The swells have both right and left breaks and multiple peaks. The beach break is only recommended to professional surfers.

Punta Barrigona

Punta Barrigona is a rocky reef break with a long left hand that turns into a massive hot dog wave. It is only suitable for advanced surfers.

Sunset Reef

Sunset Reef is a left hand rocky reef break which is very rapid at first and then results in large ride-able wall. The reef is shallow and surfing can be dangerous.

Corcovado has preserved its pristine condition even though many tourists have visited it. Travelers enjoy its natural splendor by pitching tents and spending nights on the beach while on vacation.
One of the first discovered beaches in Costa Rica is the Manuela Antonio beach. It has become well-known because of its breathtaking views and sights. The vibrant colors of blue and green are incorporated in the sea, jungle-covered mountains and sky. Since it’s the most visited beach in Costa Rica, Manuel Antonio also has a very active night life in the nearby town area.

Tortuguero

Tortuguero is a beach on Costa Rica’s Caribbean side. It’s located in the north of Limon. Its name loosely translates to “Land of Turtles.” As its name suggest, sea turtles can be found in its waters. Vacationers can get a chance to see these creatures during their egg-laying season, which is from April to May and July to October, depending on the species of turtle.

Other beaches such as Punta Uva, Playa Dominical, Manzanillo and Bonita beach can also be visited in Costa Rica. More beaches are being developed for tourism each year. And many of the known beaches are growing in development to accommodate the many tourist visiting Costa Rica.
