Surf Lessons

Al Chile features different kinds of options depending upon your surfing skills and needs. Beginners, intermediates and veterans are all welcome. According to your wish, you can learn in groups or privately with an instructor. The charges of private classes are higher than group lessons. Talking of instructors, Al Chile has a team of professional and experienced surf teachers who are also trained as lifeguards. Instructors are both male and female. Located at Plaza Brunela, 360 Surf Shop is standing on the white sand beach of Playa Santa Teresa on the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. The shop was opened by Julia Mueller-Schwenn in 2006. She is a fully experienced surf instructor and manager who has taught surfing in various countries including Hawaii, Indonesia and Costa Rica. After a decade of experience, she decided to open her own school and shop in the tropical country. In 2011, Ryan, a young Floridian surfer, moved to Santa Teresa and joined the shop to spread his love of ocean and surfing.

Description

Playa Hermosa is a beautiful beach found just north of Santa Teresa. It was originally known as San Martin but due to its panoramic beauty, tourists began to refer to it as Playa Hermosa, The Beautiful Beach, and the perfect name stuck. The beach is widely undeveloped and remains a secluded and beautiful platform for various adventurous and leisure activities.

It offers snorkeling, swimming, sun bathing, hiking and so many other fun things. Just like its neighboring beaches, Playa Hermosa boasts a great surf spot. It has a beach break that goes to both left and right from the center and to the north, a fantastic point break can be found. The best time to surf the beach break is at a mid tide while the point break can be surfed any time of the day. When the tide is high, the beach vanishes and the surf closes out.

There are several sandy coves and rocky tide pools that are usually deserted. At Playa Hermosa, have a romantic stroll, a lazy picnic or surf to your heart’s content.

Other Activities

Playa Hermosa might come across as a sleepy town but it has a lot to offer. Excursions, be it half day or full day, can be a bit expensive but worth the money. Sail into the dazzling sunset and enjoy the marvelous beauty of sparkling shores. You might catch a glimpse of dolphins and whales during the trip. Description

Santa Teresa is located on the southern tip of Nicoya Peninsula in Puntarenas Province of Costa Rica. It is a splendid surf destination especially in summer season. The beach is mostly uncrowded with incredible waves and swells. Playa Santa Teresa features an exposed beach break with superb waves that work throughout the year. The word class waves are regular, powerful and fast. They break to the right and left over a rocky sand bottom. The waves are fairly short reaching up to 150 meter on a good day. The offshore wind blows from the west and best swells gather from northwest, west and southwest. The swells hold up to 6 feet. There are more groundswells than windswells in Santa Teresa. The surf is best at low to mid tide. Watch out for strong rip currents.

There are three major breaks in Santa Teresa; La Lora Amarilla, Casa Cecilia and Suck Rock.

Suck Rock

Suck Rock is found just next to La Lora Amarilla. It is a popular right hand break with fast, large and steep waves often rising up to 20 feet. Before closing out, the waves can get double overhead. It is best surfer during a high tide when the swells are big. When the surf condition is at its best, waves up to 20 feet tall have been reported!

Casa Cecilia

Casa Cecilia is a popular and easy break that presents nice waves all year round. When the tide is low, the waves are perfect for beginners to practice, however during large swells, the break can be a challenge to ride. There are many rock formations on which the waves break generating left and right barrels. You can also sit leisurely on one these rocky ledges and enjoy the view.

La Lora Amarilla

La Lora Amarilla is regarded as one of the top five surf destinations in Costa Rica. It is named after a bar called La Lora Amarilla which is situated right besides. It features hollow, A-shaped waves which break in both directions at a low tide. When the currents are strong and the tide is high, the wave can create a large wall of water up to 150 meters! La Lora is free from rocks; features perfectly shaped consistent waves making itself a most favored surfing destination.

Accommodations

The hostel of Wave Trotter is situated a short walk away from the white sand beach of Santa Teresa. The hostel is spread over an expansive area and features large bedrooms, a kitchen area, a common room and separate washrooms for girls and boys. The four bedrooms are located on the first floor. They are designed with wood and have a private terrace overlooking the beach and hostel’s garden. Each bedroom is furnished with three bouncy bunk beds, a safety box, ceiling fan, towels and linen service. There is double ‘private queen’ room that provides more privacy. The double room is recommended for couples. There is a large common area that opens to the garden. It is appointed with plush couches, a stereo system, tables, sofas and hammocks.
