Playa Chiquita Riding Adventures is a horseback riding school based in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. The Caribbean adventure begins at Playa Chiquita de Talamanca, followed by going north to Puerto Viejo or south to Manzanillo. The school also offer rides to local restaurants and special events. The riding expeditions are suitable for people of all ages and skills. Join Playa Chiquita Riding Adventures to explore the scenic jungles, ride along the pristine coastline, enjoy the sounds of waves crashing against the shore and have encounters with tropical creatures.

Playa Chiquita Riding Adventures is managed by Bruce Walker who decided to move to Costa Rica in 2010 in order to achieve his dream of starting a horse riding business. Bruce found the coastal town of Puerto Viejo purely beautiful and cordial. He wandered through the sun-kissed sandy beaches bordering the Caribbean Sea and traversed the forests flourishing with all kinds of flora and fauna. He opened up his school in a hope to teach horseback riding in an enjoyable way, to enable guests to appreciate the beauty of the nature and to make their tropical way truly inspiring and magical.

Horseback Riding Tours

Playa Chiquita Riding Adventures is located in the beach town of Playa Chiquita de Talamanca right next to Shawandha Lodge. The school has a family friendly atmosphere, follows eco-conscious principles and its doors open right onto the sun baked beach! Be it a kid or an adult, a novice or an expert; the tours are for everyone! While teaching, the staff likes to take things slowly and is patient and helpful. The main reason for the tour is to have pure fun, enjoy the salty breeze of the sea and check out the sultry foliage which is why there is no rush! Ride your horse at a leisurely pace, make friends with other travelers and stop to take pictures with sloths and monkeys and observe the flights of brilliantly colored birds. Vacationers can choose to join either half day tours or 2 and a half hours long tour. For beginners, there are free riding lessons too!

Surfing, Kayaking and Other Activities

Vacationers can try several more activities besides horseback riding. Playa Chiquita Riding Adventures organizes kayaking tours held in Playa Chiquita. These tours are quite a thrill as the sea kayaks come with a window at the bottom allowing people to look into the deep blue sea, stunning coral reefs and the plethora of tropical fish. Puerto Viejo and its nearby beaches are popular for their surf breaks. Wave enthusiasts can rent a surfboard from any surf shop and head out to ride the waves. The school offers fishing tours and massage sessions as well.

Description

Barco Quebrado is a beautiful beach nestled in a cove encircled by cliffs, rocks and dense forests. The beach is located in Limon Province of Costa Rica just north to another beautiful beach called Barrigona. Playa Barco Quebrdo is situated approximately 9 kilometers away from Playa Garza. The beach is well known for its mystical beauty, swimming, diving opportunities and surfing. The area is very secluded until you get near to Cahuita National Park. Surfers, be it beginners, intermediate or veterans, can have a fabulous time here.

Barco Quebrado features a rivermouth at Rio del Banano which remains consistent throughout the year. The waves are regular, fairly short and quite fun to ride. They ride up to 50 meters breaking over a sandy bottom. They ride to left and right but favor the rights more. The waves are best ridden when the wind blows from the southwest and nice swells are picked from the northeast, east and southeast. The swells can hold up to 6 feet. Windswells are more common than groundswells. Watch out for rip currents, undertows and jellyfishes.

As mentioned before, the beach is just north to another beautiful beach called Barrigona. Playa Barrigona is a 500 acres of private jungle nestled in an isolated area on the Nicoya Peninsula. The villas on the respite are owned by a famous Hollywood actor, Mel Gibson. There is a small, deserted white sand beach close by the jungle.

Surf Camps

Surf camps found nearby Boca Quebrado include Surf For Life, Nomad Surfers Surf Camp, Hostel Crocodile Surf Camp, Totem Surf School and Tours and Totem Hotel Beach Resort.

Accommodations Nearby Barco Quebrado, Limon

If you want to surf the waves of Barco Quebrado, you can find some great accommodations in Puerto Limon that are located in close proximity to the beach and rivermouth. There are many surfer friendly places for lodging like camp sites, bed and breakfast, hostels and luxury to budget range hotels. The deserted island has a reef break with powerful, fast and hollows waves breaking to the left over a sharp and shallow reef bottom. The juicy barreling waves are known to get triple overhead without closing out. Their length range from 50 to 150 meters. The waves can get even bigger when the swells are picked up from Southeast, East and Northeast direction. Windswells are much more common than groundswells and the waves are best ridden when they come from the Northeast. The surf is bigger on the island than on the mainland which is why the reef break has gained popularity among wave riders. Due to the presence of many sharp rocks, the spot is potentially dangerous for beginners. Isla Uvita is only safe for experienced surfers. The island is completely undeveloped with no accommodations or shops. The spot may get crowded on weekends but the surf session is isolated most of the time. There are frequent rip currents, jelly fishes and sharp coral so be careful.

Tourists can also enjoy snorkeling, swimming and scuba diving on the island.

How to Get to Isla Uvita

People can only access Isla Uvita by a boat ride which is about twenty minutes away from Limon’s mainland. The island has no restaurants, hotels or any other facilities so it is better to come prepared. Camping on the sight is not allowed yet many people sometimes do camp out there.

Accommodations

If you wish to visit Isla Uvita, you can lodge in one of the accommodations in Limon. Some of the popular lodging options are Hotel Playa Westfalia, Laguna Lodge Hotel Limon, Hotel Playa Bonita, Cabinas El Oasis, Hotel & Country Club Suerre and Maribu Caribe Hotel.

Description

Playa Cocles is a pretty beach located a few kilometers away from Puerto Viejo. The merry beach village is very small with a handful of facilities. It does have a great night life, bars, boutiques, restaurants, surf shops and a nice range of hotels. One great way to explore the town is to rent a bike and ride it around the town. Besides surfing, Playa Cocles is known for its Cahuita National Park presenting a Costa Rica’s largest coral reef system, Talamanca Indian Reserve and Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge sheltering a huge number of wildlife and mangrove swamps. Travelers can also enjoy mountain biking, kayaking, sport fishing and wildlife tours. It is also one of the few beaches in Costa Rica which has lifeguard services. The atmosphere of Cocles is very cordial so tourists feel at ease.

Playa Cocles features a beach break that peels to right and left over a sandy bottom. The waves are very long riding up to 300 meter and real fun to ride when the tide is high. The break is not very consistent and tends to close out when big surfs get hollow. The waves break quite close to the beach. The beach has a steep entry and when good swells are picked, the waves increase in size. The beach break is great for intermediate and advanced surfers. Even though the wind blows all day long and improves surf condition, the best time to ride the waves is in the early morning. There are many rip currents and undertows in the water so be careful.

Surf Camps
